Autumn 1944, the final days of the Soviet–Finnish war. A young Sami woman, Anni, a Finnish sniper, Veikko, and a shell-shocked Soviet captain, Ivan, find themselves together on a remote farmstead. They speak three different languages and understand nothing of one another — yet the war forces them to find a common tongue. Viktor Bychkov plays Captain Ivan, nicknamed "Pshyolty". The film has won numerous awards.
About Viktor Bychkov's role
A shell-shocked Soviet captain named Ivan, nicknamed "Pshyolty" — a sharp, distrustful man worn down by war, who gradually thaws. A dramatic role that revealed Bychkov’s serious acting range beyond his comedic persona.
